Variety is the spice of life!

It is not uncommon to have nutrition bars or protein bars as a snack when trying to watch calories.  They usually have a good balance of protein and carbohydrates and are reasonably low in calories generally falling between 125 - 200 calories.  They are filling enough to stave off hunger until your next meal, and can give you energy when you start to tank midday.  As a retailer, we are introduced to an endless sea of protein bars, that we go through carefully and choose which ones we will carry in our offer.  For those who have typically thought that protein bars come in 2 basic flavours; chocolate and peanut, think again!  Today's selection of bars on the market come in flavours as distinct as Key Lime Pie to Pomegranate.

I remember being in grade school, and my mom would purchase those Little Debbie, Hostess and Vachon snack cakes to put into my boxed lunch every day.  If it weren't for the variety of flavours that these treats came in, I would have probably traded lunch with my best friend everyday.  As a grown-up, I have replaced calorie heavy cupcakes and brownies for nutritionally balanced protein bars, and thank goodness, there is such variety of flavours to choose from.  Don't get hooked on just one flavour, try to spice it up by trying out many.

Right now, on our website we have the ZonePerfect® bars on sale until November 15th.  With flavours like:

  • Dark Double Chocolate
  • Dark Chocolate Almond
  • Dark Chocolate Strawberry
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Fudge Graham
  • Chocolate Caramel Cluster
  • Strawberry Yogurt
  • Chocolate Mint (you Girl Guide cookie fans will love this one!)
  • Blueberry
You'll never have the same flavour twice in the same week!  Variety is the spice of life!

A Poem for the professional Dieter

This Time..........

Another diet we're about to endure,
but this time we'll do it, of that we are sure.
We've tried all the others without much success,
but this is the one to get into THAT dress!
For years we've tried hard to lose excess weight,
and we now have the answer to looking just great.
For us no more 'chips' or 'Big Mac' on a whim,
we want to look good and we'd love to be slim.
We joined all the clubs where we'd regularly meet,
but when we read all the can't haves we'd go home and 'greet'
They said don't have this and they said don't have that,
so we'd paid all that money just for a chat!
We all have a wardrobe from size 12 up to 20,
and big, baggy jumpers of which there are plenty.
A drawer of small undies is a dream we all know,
so those big ugly knickers really must go!
With time passing quickly and teenage years gone,
we have no more excuses to rely upon,
The one about 'puppy fat' ran out long ago,
so this time it's business, let's give it a go!

Crazy Fad Diets? Crazy BAD Diets.

It seems that there is no limit to what people will try in an attempt to lose weight, and lose it quickly.  While it is medically proven that the best and safest way to maintain a healthy weight is to eat a sensible and balanced diet with regular exercise, there are a ton of "get-slim-quick" fad diets that seem to draw the attention of many, even though upon examining them further, they are primarily based on some kind of starvation or deprivation.  I wanted you to share in my amusement, so I have pulled together my Top 10 list of CRAZY FAD DIETS.

The Baby Food Diet: Replacing 1 to 2 meals with baby food and thus consuming less than 600 calories/day.

The Cabbage Soup Diet: Consumption of the popularized "cabbage soup" for 7 days.  Weight loss generally attributed to water loss.

The Coconut Diet:  Coconut oil is said to boost metabolism, but gee wiz, it's full of saturated fat!  C'mon now.

The Cookie Diet: Replace 2 meals a day with 2 cookies each and consume 800 calories or less.  (Give me a break!)

The Facial Skin Analysis Diet:  A special diet is prescribed based on the texture of your skin, hair and eye texture.  (What happens if you're bald?   You don't get to eat?)

The Grapefruit Diet: The old Hollywood diet is based on eating 1/2 a grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice before each meal and consuming a dangerously low calorie diet of 800 calories or less.

The Juice Diet: Replace 2 meals per day with liquid, and have a sold meal in between.  Mmmm...scrumptious!

The Purple Food Diet:  Self-explanatory.  Eat foods that are purple like eggplant, plums, blueberries, blackberries, uh.....yep, that's it.

The Tapeworm Diet:  (saved the best for last) It's as disgusting as it sounds. Ingest this parasitic creature, and it lives off the food you consume.

If you've ever tried any of these diets, we won't hold it against you.  For real weight loss tools to help you achieve real results, check us out at www.weightmanagementblvd.com
